7 Deadly sins

For our latest brief it split into section which I may of already mentioned and the second half of it based on the Seven Deadly Sins so I have been doing some basic research on them. 

The seven deadly sins, also known as the capital vices or cardinal sins, and they have been around since the early christian times, so a long time in other words. Obviously with them being called the '7 deadly sins' there are 7 different topics: pride, greed, gluttony, wrath, envy, lust and sloth. So I have dug out and opened up my not so modern dictionary at find out the meanings of each of these words to help me get a better understanding of them... 

Pride- a quality or feeling or being proud

Greed- excessive or rapacious desire, espeically for wealth or possession 

Gluttony- excessive eating and drinking

Wrath- strong, stern, fierce anger or indignation

Envy- painful or resentful awareness of an advantage enjoyed by another joined with a desire to possess the same advantage

Lust- intense sexual desire or appetite. A passionate or overmastering desire or craving

Sloth- disinclined to activity or exertion: not energetic or vigorous

Pattern cutting-3

Continuing our 60s dress was todays task which meant I was ready to start manufacturing as I had cut out all my pattern pieces from my material.

Before cutting the pieces out I had to pin the pattern in the right places on the material.

1. Sewing the dart- to do this it meant joining the two notches together and stitching down towards the dot drawn from where the pin was place on the pattern piece making sure you come of the fabric with the stitching at the dot point.

 2. Patch pocket when it came to manufactoring the lined patch pocket we realised that we hadnt cut out the lining, I used just the left over from my black material- to do this I just used the pocket pattern piece and drew around it and cut it out, simples.

To make sure we places the pockets in the right place on the front of the garment we had to pin the pattern piece onto the material and place pins in the corners of the pocket which then allowed me to draw dots with tailors chalk for guide lines

Attaching the pockets- well it was tricky at first but after my 2nd/3rd attempt it got better and I felt a lot happier with them rather than my first attempt!! I have figured from todays lesson that the fabric I have chosen isn't actually the best and isn't really that easy to work with as it pulls quite a lot, so next time I will defiantly consider what fabric I use a lot more and make sure it is more sustainable and hard wearing as nobody wants a dress that falls a part right?!

I got up to stitching of the zip on the back panels but I ran out of time and will have to finish off next week- hopefully Ill have a finished dress then yay.. 1/2 a dress down 5 1/2 to go wooo

Fashion Design cycle

That image doesn't look very eye catching at all- boring

Since being given the task of researching about the design cycle I knew I had read about it before could remember where and I was determined that I couldn't mix it up with the product design cycle which I already know all about. The last few weeks I have been searching for this one book at home and tonight I have found it!! (sigh of relief haha) And over all of the internet I couldn't find it in a clearer way (not only the diagram) which has proved to me that the cycle is almost like a hamster wheel haha. (A quote from the book not me!) 

The book I got it from is called Fashion Design and its by Sue Jenkyn Jones. Im made up I found it as its got everything in such as pattern cutting, the history of fashion, all about fashion capitals, marketing- basically a little bible. Im actually surprised how many book I have on fashion, could start my own library but there just so handy and helpful to have.

Modern day book worn

Please ignore the title of this post because when you read the content you will think to yourself 'that has nothing to do it with it' but in my head it made sense. Its basically cut into pieces,  as the modern day means one thing and the book one represents another haha.

So for Christmas I was very lucky to get an iPad off father christmas which I was really not expecting so I was one very over the moon chicken! And hand on heart I have not put it down since Christmas day (yes I know my poor eyes). Its like a knew way of life haha- thats a bit dramatic. So with having this as my Christmas present I thought I would consider getting the Vogue magazine subscription on to there as its cheaper and I can read it where I am at anytime, which lead to me discovering some knew magazines which I have never heard of before. And well I never they are good! Cant compare them to Vogue as they are totally diverse and have a much more contemporary feel to them. The name and shame bit now then...

Bullett

is an american magazien based in New York, its a very modern magazine as it was launched in 2010. The reason I like this magazine so much because it has a fresh and virberant feel to it. I covers all sorts of medias such as bold fashions, music, art and films. Bullett likes to be known as a 'Transmedia' Magazine.

 V MAGAZINE

Is a contemporary magazine as it was launched in 1999 and covers everything from fashion being its main focus to art, music, architecture act. Each issue a them such as music, sport, art, models. This issue with JLO on the front was the sports addition.

Obviously Ive still got my normal magazine choices such as Vogue, Elle, Company (which I buy religiously every month), Dazed and Confused which I recently discovered, but I like exploring and finding new magazines to read and find inspiration from!
