Cara D has taken over the fashion world and it was quoted that she was the 'star face' of the A/W 13 shows, which is pretty true she was everywhere. From strutting her stuff at the Burberry show to now being on every magazine cover possible, even taking the high street by storm from H&M to Zara. Cara is named to be the knew 'Kate Moss'. The reason I choose her for my ideal model for my garment isn't because of her fame and fortune its clearly because of her key look which is quirky and you don't find it in everybody! Her amazing check bones and eyebrows just define her edgy look. Its perfect for my design and visionary audience.
As I have been designing and developing my final garment I have had to come with a target audience for my garment. Now in my head I thought this would be pretty simples but as my garment is Visionary rather than Ready-To-Wear or Couture it proved rather difficult. Visionary basically means not an every day piece, whether its a statement piece for a collection or for a gallery or just purely to put a designers name on the map. This led me to decide to put two different audiences together as I want to use the idea of my garment being a statement piece at the end of collection on the catwalk. This would mean that the rest of the collection would have aspects of my design within it, so I can picture it to be very masculine and tailored, involving deconstruction and suits. So for the watered down version of my garment the audience I decided that my target customer would be is that she would be working in the creative industry, she is aged around 20-30, is single and has no children. She has an annual income of £35,000 and lives in East London where it is very stylish and creative. She takes 2 holidays a year to somewhere like Dubai where stye is still key and wears clothes sizes 8-10. She likes to shop in designers concessions in Selfridges but also likes independent/contemporary boutiques, she is an impulse shopper and is trend driven but still adds her own twist to trends. When she shops she buys for work and social functions and doesn't have any body conscious issues. Her spending bracket ranges from £500 to £850. She reads Another magazine as its quirky, TANK as it involves art and Elle as its full of fashion and trends. Her biggest dislike is 'Fast Fashion'. I can also see her to be very involved with social media such as Twitter and Instagram as well.
As I have come up with a customer for a watered down version of my collection I had to come up with a customer who I could see wearing my actual garment on the catwalk, I wanted her to be fresh and modern with strong features and a defiant look about her, I thought of Cara Delevingne instantly as that description basically sums her up! Most designers have commented on how fun and crazy she is which fits perfectly with my target audience, she is also very much involved in social media using Twitter and Instagram on a regular basis. She wouldn't have a spending bracket as she would more than likely get free stuff sent to her but as a designer I applied this question to myself and came up with the costs of fabric at £50 to then sell the garment at £5000, I am able to use fabrics at any price asVisionaryisn't about the quality its about the garment its self and the design. Cara also has the masculine edge to her style which is a key feature in my design also she is British born and grew up in London which is where I based my customer.
Well, we've come to end of our styling brief :( and at first I couldn't understand why the 2nd years liked this brief so much but looking back over it I've really enjoyed it myself and I would happily do it all over again, I think I enjoyed it because I was able to create things and let my ideas just flow (also I was able to let my inner bossiness out). My first ever ever fashion shoot was my Vintage/Tank shoot which I worked with a partner to do, I enjoyed doing this task as we were able to bounce ideas off each other to create better outcomes and a lot more ideas for our work. I also found this shoot good because we had a longer period of time to sort things out and plan all our ideas out which allowed use to have a set of strong images. The Le Ballon Rouge shoot was the 2nd shoot and the day we got this task I had such a head ache and I was going away to London that weekend so I was in complete panic mode.. On the train that night I don't think I shut up about it all the way to Euston!! In such short amount of time we had to plan and prep and get everything we needed was stressful but an enjoyable stress if thats possible? I think considering the time period we had to do this task, I think my outcome is strong and in the future I hope to make them even stronger as this idea is unique to it's self. With the 1st shoot being completely different to this shoot, I found I liked working by myself a little bit more as it allowed me to be a tad more creative with my ideas but I did enjoy working in a team because for the theme we had our ideas grew stronger together. The final shoot was my least favourite at the time but now looking at my outcome, it is my favourite haha. I thought for this task we would have longer to plan and prep as it's the 'final outcome' and all that but hey what was I thinking?!?! NOPE I had 4 days to do absolutely everything... which yes included making the jacket, I think at some points blood, sweat and tears where added in to the coat!! Then on the day my model didn't come and all that jazz but in the end it all figured out and worked even better than I had originally planned so fate was on my side. I enjoyed this task a lot as it allowed me to play with ideas and create something into real life. I really cant chose which shoot I enjoyed most as I liked them all the same and I liked the challenges I faced whilst they took place! I did learn a lot from this brief such as always consider the target audience, colours have a meaning, images in magazines have a story behind them and always express and write down your ideas. So yer Im sad/happy to be leaving this brief behind as I have enjoyed it but I am looking forward to see whats up next, I might even make some of my own shoots.... Or I could even end up as stylists, who knows.
With Christmas advert being shown almost everywhere I thought I would look into one more than just watching it on TV. Usually I probably would have chosen the Coca Cola advert because that defines christmas adverts but no, I wanted to be different and chose a not so popular one. I thought the M&S one was a good example as it has a few different scenes throughout and tells a good story but is know where near as soppy as the John Lewis advert (my mum cried watching it.....).
Have yourself a merry little Christmas
The first scene shows a range of women- All different ages chucking snow balls which would usually be the children doing so it kind of represents fun and youth. They are all wearing different wooly jumpers and a range of knitwear, the clothing colours are all shown to be Christmasy and of course red!! The background is shown to be set in a park that has snow covered all over which is obviously were there got the snow balls from (durrr).
Mr Big Stuff
This scene shows office wear- which makes you think you need to make a good effort to be stylish and set a good example at christmas. They are shown to all be wearing heels and lipstick which could suggest they are treating work like a party because its bright and bold lipstick. The colours are shown to be pink which could apply that the women are bosses when it comes to Christmas. there is only one male shown and he could represent the boss figure and the women need to impress him as he looks as if he is he looking at them. the last clip in this scene looks as if the women are walking out which could suggest they are going home and not working anymore over Christmas and are going out to party e.g. the works christmas doo.
I Need You Tonight
In this scene the woman are ready to go out and party!!! The age range if woman show that they are ready to go out and party, there clothes are shown to be stylish and modern but still right for all there ages. Christmas is about the parties!
Lady Marmalade
Pyjamas, you cant go wrong with especially around christmas. Comfy and stylish are shown to be here and of course there all red and white which is super cute for Christmas! The women are shown t be having fun jumping about then the last shot of them is going on to stand powerful but show tiredness as well as if they have had a busy time.
Celebration
It then goes on to a new scene showing nothing but kids celebrating and dancing along! This remind me of a school disco or almost like they have skipped along and jumped to new years and as if they are at a party celebrating. There shown to all be dress smart and stylish but still showing the (I'm a child I need something cute and comfy) look. The gold background suggests to me money and wealth, which could mean Christmas is an expensive time but still M&S is affordable.
They defiantly cater for there huge target market that M&S have in this advert, this is done by using the range of different aged people through out. Really think this advert works well and covers a lot of events that take place over Christmas and shows that the company overs everything you need over the festive period, you cant beat a M&S Christmas and I cant wait for my Christmas dinner. p.s I like M&S percy pigs... hint hint p.ss Did you guess all the songs?!
