A couple of weeks ago we had a quest speaker, Tony Green who was a past student at Mid Cheshire College come and speak to us. Tony went on to study at Central Saint Martins in London after he finished his two years and has worked for the likes of Sonia Rykiel in Paris. He told us about his experience in CSM and shown us some of his work which has really inspired me, he is a very strong illustrator and I love the quickness and detail in his drawings. His designs that he did during his time at CSM I found were very interesting as well as he liked looking at vintage and taking inspiration from garments that are already produced.
During the time Tony was in college I had the chance to have a 1 to 1 with him and show him some of my work. I took the chance to also show him some bits from my portfolio which was really helpful as he guided me to the road of Egon Schiele's work as he can see it coming across in my work and style of drawing and from researching into him I can see the connection, as I like the quick sketchy unfinished look to my work. I also shown him my FMP sketch book which he really liked and complemented my drawings. Tony jotted down some ideas for me which were based on my sketch book and styling my FMP garment when I get round to it. One really good tip he gave me was to look at Japanese warriors and link them to my design because of the structure and armer they wear.
From having a chat with Tony and looking at his work made me really inspired and gave me lots of ideas for my portfolio, he also made me gain an insight to the working fashion industry and gave me confidence in my work!
