My Illustration

When researching and experimenting will illustrators styles and medias I really liked Yoshikazu Yamagata quick but effective style and I felt it really worked with my garment as its out of the ordinary. I also found I liked his use of pencil and dashes of colour.

I knew I wanted my illustration of my garment to be big and have different aspects about it as I like using collage in my work as it conveys reality. I wasn't sure where to start with drawing my garment as I didn't want to have it pictured straight on, as thats simple and wouldn't give a strong effect so I started off taking pictures of my garment from different angles mainly from high up...

I felt this angle worked best as it shows the main features and the structure.

With my idea of inserting collage into my work I decided I would take some pictures of brick walls and use them as I looked at the construction on building and the housing that the lower victorian class used to live in and the texture of the bricks in my concept.

I also wanted to convey the drape in the back of my garment as I feel that its a key feautre to my garment so I took this image from when I was doing some experimental draping on the stand...

Here I have experimented with all my different aspects to my design, I also used my own method to get the shape of my figure, I did this by shutting my eyes and feeling my head (weird I know but it works and I think it works will with my design and style!). To get the splash of colour I used the same method but going around it with a red pencil crayon. This illustration is only my practice and my finished one will be complete soon :)
