A little bit side tracked...

Inspiration

You might of seen the first image before as I posted it a couple of weeks ago but it basically gave me inspiration for an outfit because of its structure and angles of the shapes, I also found this image taken from menswear fashion featured in Bullett Magazine inspiring because of the shapes of the garments and structure it holds. The fabric I also posted about a few weeks ago (post here) from a photo shoot I did was the main culprit of me being side tracked from the FMP dress.

In my head I knew exactly what I wanted to make and that was a structured box crop top to go with a matching skirt. I wanted it to hold shape but have a box pleat in a finer material at the back of the top. The problem I faced when patterning for this was the fact I didn't want any darts at the bust as I felt it would pull the top into much and create the wrong shape, so I decided to toile my pattern first in a lighter material. The colour scheme just sort of fell into place when I picked the fabrics which just happened to be'monochrome'. Monochrome is a big trend at the moment which helps with the styling aspect of the outfit.

Toile

My toile worked fine and it was the shape I was going for, I also think having no darts helped me out as the fabric is very thick and would just created bulk around the bust area.

Final

I choose to have my zip right the way through the skirt as I feel it conveys a more industrial look and links well with the fabric.

The box pleat in a finer fabric works well as a contrast with the whole outfit and fabric as it gives it a feminine touch!

Overall I am happy with the outcome of this outfit and Im looking forward to shooting it tomorrow!
