I'm Meg, I love anything fashion related and this is a blog that's going to record my progress and inspirations throughout my two year fashion design course. This is my first taste on my new course...
Shape Development
My shape development work, half annotated |
As you can see from the image above I have been pretty busy learning about shape development. Before I started today I had never covered shape development so it was something completley new to me, I never really understood what it was until now. I chose images from a theme which was Egypt and photocopied them in different sizes. After drawing out a set of four figures I then cut out the images I thought would give me inspiration and fit to the figure to create ideas for garments.
I like this way of working as it sets off all different types of ideas that you would never usually think of.
I think my theme Egypt was trickier than i thought it would be as some of the shapes didn't fit right to the figures but I think the edging, textures and different shapes helped create some good inspiration and ideas.
I cant say I didn't like anything if I am honest as I learnt some very useful skills that I think will help me develop my designs.
Shapes and Manikins
I have created a design on a manikin using paper, bobble wrap and bin bag squares and pins!
The front on my manikin |
Embellishment |
The left side of my manikin square design |
I only mainly worked on the left side of the manikin, I did this so that it wouldn't lose the shoulder detail in all of the other pieces of the design.
If I was to make this design out of materials I think it would have to be a very structured garment using a range of different but wearable materials like I have used paper, bobble wrap and bin bag plastic. One thing I didn't like about making this was the using the pins with no tops, they hurt my thumbs but that just me being a fuss pot!
I am very happy with design and i really enjoyed making it and just shows that you can make anything out or anything, from squares to bin bags!
Tomorrow we will be drawing our designs on from the manikin onto large cards to show our drawing skills. I really enjoyed my first day as a fashion student and I cant wait for tomorrow or September!
