Do you want to know what gets in between me and my Calvins?

NOTHING!!

As Brook Shields would say, I've been researching into the 70's and I have stumbled across Calvin Kline adverts, They are pretty simple but the product placement is mainly all on famous models and actors/actresses. the ads are also known for being a bit controversial as some people found them inappropriate and they actually got banned from being shown

The advert that went along with this image got banned,

All these ads have made me want to search and splurge out on a pair of CK Jeans...

1860-1869

Recently I have been studying the fashion and influences from 1860 and 1869 and whilst looking into it that decade I stumbled across a very famous textile and interior designer, William Morris.

I have researched about him before but I have never looked into all of his work and the way it has influenced fashion and the textile industry. I think his work is so creative and the way he creates patterns is just so chic.

Within the Fashion industry at the moment I think the floral trousers that are a key tend for a/w seem to have a look of Morris' work such as these Topshop Cigarette Trousers. His work has also influenced collections such as Jonathan Saunders Autumn/Winter that was shown at London Fashion Week in 2011.

I think Morris' work may have influenced pattern designers as well such as Cath Kidston as her patterns are similar in ways and can be linked to Morris' work with the use of floral design.

The way the world works- Topshop Unique SS13 LFW

LFW, who doesn't want to be? I think your stupid if your answer is no to that question! Today was the day Topshop (my favorite ever ever shop) revealed there SS13 Unique collection and what can I say besides wow. I sat round my computer screen at 3pm in complete and utter or of everyone there!

The art inspiration behind the SS13 designs were modern and metric art that came from day to day life and they also focused on different light and shades, but the biggest focus was linear shapes. I think you can tell that these few things were big inspirations as pretty much every garment has it put into it! The collection was very minimal and tailored and used only basic colours ranging from black and white to neutral back to black with pops of colour, it all just worked and fell together beautifully. There was lots of sheer fabrics used and silks which made most of the garments be loose fitted, I think is a key look for Topshop Unique and Topshop as a hole.

The models make up was a dewy finish on the face with a burst of light colour on the eyes using a pink shadow and they gave it a grungy look by adding some smokey eyeliner to the lower lid, the hair style was the kind of 'morning after the night before' look which real worked for the show and just gave it a laid back look but still on trend which again is a key Topshop look. Over all I cant pick what my favorite outfit was from this show and I think Topshop have done it again and set the trends high for next season. Im so jealous of everyone who was there witnessing this collection...
bring on spring/summer 13!!

So far so good

Last week was my first proper week in college and so far its all good!

I have met some great people on my course and I think I will get lots from the next 2 years. I have been given my first brief and I have realised just how much work I need to be doing (a lot haha).

The first brief is all about being able to research and record information to review and produce different outcomes as being a designer you need to be able to research before you go onto design. I got given the time period of 1860- 1869 to look into, so this last week I have been busy gathering research for that and this weekend I am putting it all into my sketch book to hopefully be completed by Tuesday. When I have done that I can move onto a different time period.
